I am looking for information regarding the death/murder of Gladys Waneta Cox. She went by her middle name, Waneta. Waneta was born June 10, 1909 in Shell City, Vernon County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Riley Marion Cox and Nettie Mae Alumbaugh. Waneta married Fred Thomas Cline December 12, 1927 in Fort Scott, Kansas. She disappeared sometime in 1936 or 1937 leaving behind three small children. If you have any information regarding her murder, please e-mail me. Don't you think it's time to finally speak out and tell what you know after all these years? It's time to try to right a terrible wrong. Her family deserves closure. Thank you and please... if you know anything about the events that led to her murder, please e-mail me.

This is a resubmittal of a 1997 query. I just realized the orginal email given is defunct.
Mathias and Reese Roseberry were in the 21st Missouri Volunteer Infantry, which I have assumed was formed at least partially out of Vernon County because that is where their father Thomas Hughes Roseberry lived and died. Mathias was mortally wounded in action on April 9, 1865 during the siege on the rebel Fort Blakeley, Alabama, only hours after Lee surrendered at Appomatox. His brother Rees was with him when he passed away early the next morning. Family lore has it that Rees married his older brother Mathias' sweatheart, Sue Wayland upon returning to Vernon County after the war. Rees was my great grandfather. I would love to find out about any trace information from Vernon county on the Roseberry or Wayland families. I have a copy of the original letter of condolence from Mathias' commander (Blackburn) to Thomas Hughes Roseberry. If you are interested in acquiring a copy of my copy, let me know. My sister still has Sue Wayland's silk wedding dress and dress gloves, in excellent condition too.

I am trying to find where John Elder is buried. He was born in Tenn, then his family moved to Illinois. Little is known about his life after he moved to Missouri. The records indicate that he and his wife, Jane Martin Elder, moved to Missouri near Fort Scott around 1871. Most of their children moved back to Illinois after John died. At least one child stayed with Jane in Missouri: Chilnicia "Nicia" Ann Elder who later married Andrew Tolly on Dec. 26, 1870 in Vernon Co.
I would appreciate any help in locating where John and his wife Jane are buried.

My ggrandparents, A.C.(ALEXANDER COLIN) MCCLELLAN of Montrose (Henry Cty.) and EMMA A (ANNE) HOYE of Harrisonville (Cass Cty.) were married at Walker in Vernon County on April 19, 1885. Their marriage was performed by A. H. DEANE, MG, a Baptist Minister. Does anyone in Vernon County know if this minister was associated with any particular Baptist church that might have more information about this couple? They must have had family in the area to have married out of their counties of residence. Thanks for any help!
