Deaths and Burials Vernon County Missouri
Including Sources and Burials Elsewhere
The ALL-NEW Vernon County cemetery directory has been published and is now available for purchase at the Bushwhacker Museum, 212 W. Walnut Street, Nevada, Missouri (phone orders to 417-667-9602). This 1,563-page, 3-volume set of books includes full names and dates from gravestones, obituaries, and death certificates plus names of parents and spouses for many of the more than 72,000 deaths/burials included. Additionally, a source citation for the death/burial information is included, such as the newspaper and publication date of an obituary and many additional sources. Active cemeteries were resurveyed, and those listings are in map order to assist in locating specific stones in the cemetery. Sample pages can be seen here.
Publication of this new work has been made possible in part by a 21st Century Fund Grant from the Missouri State Genealogical Association. The Cedar and Vernon County Genealogical Society and the Vernon County Historical Society partnered to update and expand this resource. Many volunteers helped complete this project ~ Thank you!
Contact the Bushwhacker Museum to purchase a copy.
Additions/corrections to information published in the 2024 Deaths and Burials Vernon County Missouri
This section is ONLY for additions/corrections to the Deaths and Burials Vernon County Missouri 2024 books; please do not send changes/updates from the 2010 directory. Please note that the heading which reads "burials alphabetically" at the end of surveyed cemeteries in the 2024 books should read "Unmarked Burials Alphabetically." Some gravestones which were previously surveyed were not found during the recent surveys of active cemeteries. It has been noted that complete date of death from funeral home records could possibly be the date of burial rather than of death; please notify the county coordinator to post any correction discovered in your research. Recent burials and dates and publications of their obituaries are not "corrections" and will not be added here.

Every effort and resource were used to make the 2024 books as accurate and user-friendly as possible; but sometimes resources contained conflicting information, and unintentional errors are made. Please feel free to report additions or corrections to the Cedar and Vernon County Genealogical Society for this page and include the source of the information being reported.
It is not planned to add deaths occurring in 2024 and later to this page because obituaries are available online from newspapers and funeral homes.
