ABRAM V. WORMLEY

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 483:

Abram V. Wormley

(Farmer and Stock raiser, Section 14, Post-office, Schell City).

Abram V. Wormley, the eldest of a family of four children, was born August 19, 1838, in Kendall county, Ill., and from his earliest recollection has been engaged principally in agricultural pursuits.  His father, William M. Wormley, was born in 1805, in Steuben county, N. Y., and in 1836 he was married in Kendall county, Ill., to Miss Elizabeth Van [F]leet, whose birth occurred in Germantown, N. J.  Abram has two brothers and a sister, whose names are Alfred, George and Susan.  His life has not been marked by any striking deviation from the ordinary channels of his chosen avocation, and yet he has pursued his way quietly and energetically until a point in material affairs has been reached which he may refer to with pride.  March 14, 1864, he was married to Miss Marian King, who was born in Illinois September 30, 1844.  After this event Mr. Wormley continued to make his home in Oswego, Ill., until 1868, when he moved to Shabbona, returning thence in eight years to Oswego.  Two years later he again located at Shabbona and in October, 1879, he came to this county, settling upon his present farm in section 14.  His comfortable homestead embraces eighty acres, while in another tract he has forty acres of timber-land well adapted to the general purposes for which it is used.  For four years Mr. Wormley was a soldier during the war.  July 10, 1861, he enlisted in Co. I., 36th Illinois volunteer infantry, Fourth Army Corps, and remained in service until being mustered out October 8, 1865.  Mr. W. and wife have three children:  Emma E., born July 27, 1866; William M., born November 27, 1867; Nellie J., born February 19, 1874.  He is a Democrat politically; for some years he has belonged to Raven Lodge No. 303, A. F. and A. M., at Oswego, Ill., and with Mrs. Wormley he belongs to the Methodist Church.
