WALTER ALONZO STEELE

 

Walter A. Steele

     Walter A. Steele, 90, Willow Lane Care Center, Butler, a former resident of the Metz area, died Thursday, March 31, 1988, at Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler.

     Born Nov. 25, 1897, northeast of Metz, he was the son of Alonzo and Emily (Ford) Steele.  He was married Nov. 2, 1938, at Lamar to Edna M. Summers.  They lived on the Steele homestead northeast of Metz until the early 1970s when they sold their farm and moved to Butler.  His wife died March 20, 1987.  He was a member of the First Christian Church of Rich Hill, where he served as a deacon on the church board and sang in the church choir.

     His only survivors are nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Bill (Margie) Breneman of Nevada.

     Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Underwood Steinbeck Schowengerdt Chapel, Rich Hill, with the Rev. Charles Rhodes officiating.  Interment will be Fairview-Rider Cemetery southwest of Rich Hill.

     Friends may call at the chapel now and until the hour of service.

Edna M. Steele

     Edna M. Steele, 83, Butler, formerly of the Metz area, died Friday, March 20, 1987, at Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler.

     Born August 14, 1903, in Vernon County, she was the daughter of William A. and Alice (Boling) Summers.  She was married to Walter Steele on November 2, 1938, and they lived on the Steele homeplace near Metz until moving to Butler in 1970.  She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Rich Hill.

     Survivors include: her husband, Walter, Willow Lane Nursing Home, Butler, and several nephews and nieces including Margie Breneman of Nevada and Mildred Hamblin of Pittsburg, Kan.

     Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 1987, at the First Christian Church of Rich Hill with the Rev. David Brock officiating.  Interment will be in Fairview-Rider Cemetery.

     Friends may call now and until 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Underwood Steinbeck Schowengerdt Funeral Home of Rich Hill.
