Andrew Peter (A.P.) Selim immigrated from Sweden in 1879, entering the United States at Castle Garden, New York City.  In the 1880 Des Moines Co, IA Census, he is listed as a single 26 yr old white male, born in Sweden and parents born Sweden. His occupation is that of a shoemaker.

Maria Lovisa Blad emigrated shortly thereafter, and they were married on 6 Jan 1883 in Orient, IA.  Six children were born to them while living in Iowa.

A farm sale bill shows that A.P. had several head of livestock and numerous farm implements which were sold when he left Iowa.

In 1903 the family purchased land in Vernon Co and moved to a farm south of Moundville, MO.

Maria and A.P. Selim stand between sons Elmer (left) and Arthur (right) at the entrance gate to their farm located south of Moundville, MO. It is known that this picture was taken prior to 27 Sep 1917 as that is when Arthur took ill and died three days later.

The house and all of the large, fine barns are now gone. All that remains to mark this family homesite are the drive off of Hwy 43 and 2 or 3 lonely trees.

A.P., Maria, and their children were well respected in the community and active in local events.

Although only in the community for 3 years, when the Moundville State Bank was incorporated on 1 Sep 1906, A.P. Selim was one of the several men whose names appear in the Articles of Association.

Additional information on the A.P. Selim family can be found on the Lyndon Irwin website.
