SAMUEL AND SOLOMON REED
The 1887 History of Vernon County,
Missouri; page 885:
Esq. Hoyle settled
near the mouth of Reed's branch (then called Hoyle's branch), before the
year 1840. Solomon and Samuel Reed and their father located on this stream
in 1842 and gave their name to it. The northern part of the township did not
begin to settle until after the war to any important extent.
In September 1847, ... At this time the settlers on Reed's creek
were Solomon Reed, Samuel Reed, Dabney Davis, Wm. McAdams, John Powers and
James Upton.
The 1850 Census, Bates County, Missouri, District 6, Dwelling 616, Family 616:
REED, Samuel, 71 year old male, farmer, $250 real estate, born VA.
