Charles H. Prewitt

(Treasurer of Vernon County, Nevada).

   Mr. Prewitt, a worthy son of him whose biography appears above, and the present incumbent of the responsible position of treasurer of Vernon county, owes his nativity to Lafayette county, Mo., where he was born October 8, 1853, the second of his parents’ family of five children. As previously stated his father was born in the Blue Grass State, his mother’s birth occurring in Ohio; her maiden name was Mary J. Sample. Charles H. accompanied the family to Vernon county in 1858 and here grew up, and during the war he went with his father through that struggle. Afterwards he took a trip to Texas and while there one winter freighted for 1,600 miles, acquiring by experience a thorough knowledge of frontier life. In 1876, the real estate, loan and abstract firm of W. W. Prewitt & Son was organized at Nevada, and carried on under that style until a short time before Mr. P.’s election as treasurer, since which period business has been conducted by W. W. Prewitt. December 4, 1879, he was married to Miss Willie Blanton, who was born in Texas. Their three children are Harry C., Horace E. and Pauline. Mr. Prewitt is a leading member of the K. of P. Though but little time has elapsed since he entered upon his official duties, it is a matter of certainty that he will prove himself well qualified to serve those who have committed their interests to his management, and that he will retain what he already enjoys—the highest confidence of his associates.
