James F. McClellan and his older brother William H. McClellan are found in the 1850 and 1860 federal census records living in the household of James and Rebecca Fagg.

A Lincoln County Missouri marriage record show that James B. Fagg married Rebecca Silkwood on 11 August 1850. The relationship, if any, of the Fagg and Silkwood families to the McClellan family is not known.
Family story is that the McClellan father died when William and James were very young. Their mother may have also died, but no information can be found regarding her. |
James Franklin McClellan’s Missouri death certificate shows that he was 76 years old at his death in 1927, and D.S. McClellan was the informant. His gravestone shows that he was born 26 Jul 1851. However, both the 1850 and 1860 censuses show that his birth year was more likely about 1848, because he was listed as 2 years old in 1850 and 12 years old in 1860.
James Franklin McClellan married Chella Elizabeth “Fannie” Taylor on 13 October 1868 in Henry County, Missouri. In 1870 James was a farm hand in the Virgil Township, Vernon Co, MO Census. Ten year later, he is still living in Virgil Township and is listed as a farmer. By the 1900 census, James owns a mortgaged farm in Dover Township; and 8 of 12 children born to Elizabeth are living.
In 1910, James McClellan and his wife were living with their youngest son and wife in Dover Township, and James' occupation is that of church clergyman. In 1920, he and his wife were living by themselves in a house which they owned free of mortgage on Main Street in Milo, Drywood Township. James was the Pastor of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and also in the Ketterman community in Vernon County, Missouri.

6. Cornetti Brooks “Nettie” McClellan 1876-1972 married Charley S. Hensley 1880-1967 on 2 Mar 1904.
7. Rosa Lee McClellan 1878-1957 married first E.W. McCormick and second Eugene Scholl 1876-1954.
8. George B. McClellan 1884-1942 married first Edna Selsor 1883-1922 and second Charlotte "Lottie" Burnsworth 1905-1989. George McClellan's children include: Martin, Bert, Grover, Tony, Samuel, Clarence, "Mac," George, Larry, Geneva, and Marilyn.
9. Jennie Mae McClellan 1884-1959 married Samuel Washington Beisly 1873-1955.
10. Walter L. McClellan 1888-1941 married Eliza Ethel Carter 1890-1986.
11. Doris Sylvester McClellan 1889-1951 married Beulah Ethel Chadd 1892-1954.

Fannie Taylor McClellan died in 1923, and James died in 1927. They are buried in the Olive Branch Cemetery. |
Family research shows that William H. McClellan was born 28 April 1844 in Illinois. He married Melva Bryant on 12 December 1869 in Vernon County.
In 1880, the William and Melva McClellan family is living in Jasper County, Missouri with three young children: Ada Grace McClellan born 18 Oct 1870 Mary E. McClellan born about 1875 Archer Franklin McClellan born 11 May 1878
William H. McClellan died 27 October 1893 and is buried in Click Cemetery at the edge of Nevada.
In 1898, the widow Melva McClellan married Henry G. Bollinger.
