JOHN MARING

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 508:

John Maring

(Farmer, Section 1, Post-office, Harwood).

A resident of this county for upwards of 20 years, and during this time actively associated with its agricultural affairs, Mr. Maring is by no means a stranger to the many readers of this work.  Both by birth and bringing up he is an Ohio man; born in Richland county, that State, in 1829, he grew to manhood in that locality, learning in youth the trade of a carpenter, which he afterwards followed for many years.  Peter Maring, his father, came originally from New Jersey; he was a farmer during life.  John was the third of five children, two of whom were daughters.  In 1866 he left Ohio with a determination to locate further west and finally settled in Pettis county, Mo., from whence he afterwards moved to this county, which has since been his home.  At this time he is the owner of 120 acres of land in section 1, of this township, and to the improvement and cultivation of this tract he has since given his attention, proving by his course an extensive acquaintance with the details of the calling.  Reliable and straightforward in his transactions, he has come to be well regarded personally and to be known as un upright, honorable citizen, one on whom it will do to depend.  Mr. Maring's wife was formerly Miss Elizabeth Glover, of Pennsylvania, daughter of Thomas Glover, a native of England.  They have a family of five children:  Wilbur F., a sketch of whose life appears elsewhere; Edward G., Elmer T., Jesse W. and Charles J.
