WILLIAM J. JOHNSON

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri, p. 569-570:

William J. Johnson

(Farmer, Section 17, Post-office, Eve).

In the sketch which immediately precedes this appears an outline of the history of the life of Mr. Johnson's father, John Johnson, who, as will be there noticed, was born in England, but subsequently emigrated to America with his family, locating in Canada, where William J. was afterwards born.  His mother's maiden name was Hannah Ellis, and she, too, came originally from England.  Young William accompanied his parents on their move to Vernon county, Mo., and this has continued to be his home, his time being variously employed, though for the last few years he has attended closely to farming.  Though brought up on a farm he was engaged for five years in mining coal exclusively, and perhaps something of his present industry may be accounted for on the ground of life long energy and determination, owing to his having been the eldest of eight children in his parents' family, a fact which necessitated considerable hard work on his part.  At this time he owns 160 acres of land well improved, and in its management has proved himself a cautious, yet successful, farmer, exercising good judgment in all he does.  October 15, 1882, Mr. Johnson was married to Miss Eva McGauglin, of Bourbon county, Kas.  They have two children, Maud M. and Corietta.
