ABRAHAM HUBBS

Abraham Hubbs married Mary A. Kellogg on 22 Nov 1855, in Dane Co, WI.

By July 1870, the U.S. Federal Census shows Abraham and Mary are living in Moundville Township, Vernon Co, MO:

HUBBS, Abram, 42 yr old white male, farmer, $1,200 real estate, $1,400 personal property, b. NY.

....Mary, 42 yr old white female, keeping house, b. NY.

....DeWitt, 13 yr old white male, b. WI, attended school within year.

....Geo. D., 11 yr old white male, b. MN, attended school within year.

....Arthur M., 3 yr old white male, b. MO.

THOMAS, Dolly, 12 yr old white female, b. MO.

The Hubbs family had moved to Missouri sometime between the birth of their sons George who was born in 1858 in Minnesota and Arthur who was born in 1867 in Missouri.

Twelve-year-old Dolly Thomas was Elizabeth Dorothy Thomas who was born 20 Jan 1858 in Newton Co, MO.  Her father was a Baptist minister who had been killed in Newton Co, MO during the Civil War.  Dolly Thomas married Charles Caton eight years later. Abraham and Mary Hubbs were always referred to as Grandfather Hubbs and Grandmother Hubbs by the Caton family. It is thought that the Hubbs took her in as an orphan as the Thomas children were all living with different families in the 1870 census.
