DR. HORACE F. FOSTER

Dr. Horace F. Foster

(Physician and Surgeon, Milo).

   One of the youngest physicians mentioned within the present work is Dr. Foster, a rising member of the medical profession in Vernon county, who is entitled to not a little credit for the position to which, by reason of talent, skill and ability, he has risen as a practitioner.  His birth occurred at Flora, Clay county, Ill., in 1861, and he was the only son of four children born of the marriage of his parents, George W. and Cassandra Foster, née Forsythe, both of whom were Kentuckians by nativity.  The father during a large portion of his life has been a land speculator.  Young Horace lived in Illinois some twelve years, but finally removed to Indiana, where he was partially reared, also receiving the advantages of good educational training there.  But a desire to enter upon an active professional life led him to take up the study of medicine and finally, after a thorough preparatory training under Dr. J. B. Ducate, one of Indiana’s talented physicians, young Foster attended medical lectures at Louisville, Ky., where he fitted himself for active practice.  In 1884 he came to Vernon county, Mo., opening an office first at Ellis, but later in the same year he removed to Milo, where a successful practice has since been accorded him.  Dr. Foster, to judge by appearances, is doing well, and the future promises for him a high degree of success.  That he deserves his good fortune there can be no doubt, for he is sincerely in earnest and of determined purpose.  November 28, 1886, Miss Emma Taylor, an estimable young lady, of Illinois nativity, became his wife.
