GILBERT COX

Gilbert Cox, brother of Alexander Cox, was born about 1825 in Robinson County, Tennessee.  He lived in Vernon County, Missouri in the 1850s, went to Utah with the Mormons, and then moved to Linn County, Kansas 1860-1870s.  He moved to Jackson County, Missouri about 1880 and lived there until his death.  He and his sons were wagon makers.  His children all died in Jackson County, Missouri.

Adaline Yancey was the daughter of Hiram John Yancey and Elizabeth Pratt.  She was born 1825 in Williamson County, Illinois.  She married Gilbert Cox in 1843 in Williamson County.  She went blind as a young woman, as did her brother, Hiram John Yancey, Jr.  Adaline had a talking bird for a pet.  It was said she was outside working one day, and this bird flew down and landed on her shoulder. People would come to their place from miles around to see the blind woman with the talking bird. Adaline died in Independence, Missouri, in June 1910.
