     Uncle A. F. Cope, one of Walker's oldest citizens, if not the oldest in the county, celebrated his 96th birthday at his home in this city Friday, October 26. A fine dinner was served at the noon hour. There is no man in Walker held in higher esteem than A. F. Cope. He has for nearly half a century been a resident of Vernon County.

A. F. Cope of Walker, aged 96, cast his vote Tuesday for Hoover. Mr. Cope has been a voter for 75 years and has voted in 18 presidential elections. His first vote for president was cast for John C. Fremont in 1856.

A. F. COPE FUNERAL HELD AT HARWOOD; DECEASED 97 YEARS OLD

     A. F. Cope, Walker's oldest resident, passed away at his home there early Sunday morning. Mr. Cope, who has been an invalid for several years, was ninety-seven years old. Mr. Cope leave six children and a number of grandchildren to mourn his death. The funeral services were held Tuesday at Harwood Methodist church and services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Ragan, of Walker.

A. F. COPE DEAD.

     A. F. Cope, who was probably the oldest man in Vernon county, died at his home in Walker Sunday morning. He was 97 years, three months and six days old, having been born in North Carolina October 27, 1832. When very young he moved with his parents to Kentucky and over 40 years ago moved to Missouri. He was in the Union army during the Civil war. Four sons and four daughters survive, Mrs. W. H. Thompson of northeast of Sheldon being among the latter. The funeral was conducted at the Harwood Methodist church, of which be was a member, Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Ragan and burial was in the Harwood cemetery.

MRS. COPE DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

     Mrs. A. F. Cope, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Harwood, died Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock, her death being due to the infirmities of old age.

     Mrs. Cope was eighty-one years of age and had been an active and consistent member of the Methodist church since childhood. She is survived by five sons and one daughter. Interment was at Harwood cemetery.
