STANLEY LEE BRITTINGHAM
Brittingham Is New Chief Of Police
Stanley Brittingham has been appointed Chief of Police, City Manager Richard Wilson announced today.
Chief Brittingham had carried an acting designation since October 12, during the illness of the late Chief of Police, Preston Dixon.
In announcing the permanent appointment, City Manager Wilson commended Chief Brittingham for his "outstanding devotion to the police profession and his quick grasp and fine performance of the demanding duties of the Chief of Police."
Appointed a patrolman in the Police Department on May 20, 1954, Chief Brittingham was advanced to the rank of sergeant on Sept. 1, 1957, and to the rank of lieutenant on Dec. 1, 1960.
Chief Brittingham, his wife and six children reside at 807 North Main.
The Nevada Daily Mail, Nevada, Missouri; Wednesday 28 November 1962 page 1.
Chief Brittingham was the first Chief to advance the Nevada Police Department in both technology and the latest crime prevention tools including a police dog, new radar equipment, walkie talkies, new police cars equipped with the latest police department needs, and much more. The police dog, Captain, was used by foot patrol officers in the downtown Nevada area due to numerous merchant robberies. Chief Brittingham was a very proud and kind man, and I think one of the best Chiefs the department ever had. I am so very proud of him and his service to the City of Nevada.
