An Old Citizen Gone

   After an illness of seven weeks S. J. Baze died at his home in Metz township, near old Metz, and was interred at the Summers graveyard.

   Mr. Baze was born in Tennessee sixty-six years ago and for more than thirty years has been a respected and prominent citizen here. His wife and four children survive him, and we feel that the entire community, as well as they, have in his death sustained a loss.

   His strong hand was ever ready at the call for help, and his big heart full of sympathy for the distressed. Truly his nature was such as to "rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."

   Early in life he became a member of the Christian church and was for years an elder at Metz. He has not lived in vain. This part of the world is better for him having lived in it.

   His worth as a neighbor and friend was demonstrated by the largest funeral attendance ever seen in this vicinity.

   In honor to an old neighbor and for his many years service as a public school officer, the Old Metz school dismissed and the entire school headed by its teacher W. E. Snow, was assigned a place in the funeral procession as it passed the school house on its way to the grave.

   A good man is gone.
